What's New with Marsha - Spring 2003

Dear Friends,

I am delighted to have a web site and the opportunity to share globally the work I do as a performer and teacher. Throughout the year, I will write a letter in the "what's new" section to let you know what is going on as I continue to build communities with music.

In February 2003 I had the joy and honor to be a part of Folk Alliance as a community outreach performer. A great time was had by all at the Green Hills Library in Nashville, Tennessee where I shared music from Australia and Africa. Also, in that same month I spent a day with students (grades 1-6) and staff at Visions School in Clear Lake, Washington. In the one day event, I demonstrated wind instruments currently played in school bands & symphonies as well as the ancient sounds of the Didjeridoo. I also taught several African songs with rhythm accompaniment on shekeres, bell, clave, thumb pianos and different drums. We concluded that day with an all school gathering where students and staff shared the things they had learned in songs, stories and instrument playing.

March 1st I had the honor of performing in Yakima with recording engineer, friend and talented musician Bill Corral. March 15, I shared an evening performance at a house concert with friend and gifted Seattle songwriter, singer, musician, Bruce Blood.

While I am saddened and grieved by the world events at this time, I am reminded daily of my calling to build communities and peace through music. In fact, the day after the events of September 11th two years ago I wrote the song, "Lay Your Burdens Down" which I will share in a very special concert on May 9th with Bill Corral and several of my private students. The concert is being promoted by the East West Book Store in Seattle and will be an evening of inspiration and hope to honor peace and the music of many cultures as well as songs from my CD "Sing My Way Home."

In May, I will return to the studio and begin recording my second CD which will feature some new original songs, several of my younger students singing as well as stories and music from around the world.

Blessings of peace and joy to you all!
